Sabbapāpassa akaraṇaṃ,
kusalassa upasampadā,
sacittapariyodapanaṃ:
etaṃ buddhāna sāsanaṃ.

Not doing any evil,
taking up what is skilful,
purifying one’s own mind:
this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

Khantī paramaṃ tapo titikkhā,
nibbānaṃ paramaṃ vadanti buddhā.
Na hi pabbajito parūpaghātī,
na samaṇo hoti paraṃ viheṭhayanto.

Patient endurance is the highest austerity;
nibbāna is the highest, say the Buddhas.
One who harms another is no renunciant;
one who troubles others is no contemplative.

Anūpavādo anūpaghāto,
pātimokkhe ca saṃvaro,
mattaññutā ca bhattasmiṃ,
pantañca sayanāsanaṃ,
adhicitte ca āyogo:
etaṃ buddhāna sāsanaṃ.

Not disparaging, not harming,
restraint by the code of discipline,
knowing moderation in food,
a secluded place to sit and sleep,
devotion to the higher mind:
this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

Verse Dhp 1–2

Mind Goes Before All Things

Yamakavagga

The Dhammapada's first two verses: everything we do is led by the mind, and what follows depends on the state it's in.
